It was already the end of January and the winter was still nowhere to see … No signs of the white powder … And the kids were asking the same question everyday: When is the snow coming ??
It was the time for a short ski break. If snow is not coming to us, then we are coming to the snow ! …
We drove to Emmetten near Luzern where we rented an apartment at holiday house Bella Vista ( www.bellavista-emmetten.ch ) which we shared with a good friends of ours.
The 80m2 apartment called Edelweiss could easily accommodate 2 families and had great view over the Lake Lucerne (German: Vierwaldstättersee). It had fully equipped kitchen, fridge, microwave, even a toaster. It had basically everything so there was no need to bring anything from home. Gästehaus Bella Vista is located directly in front of the Hotel Seeblick in Emmetten. It is only about 700m from the cable car Emmetten-Stockhütte.
Beautiful view in the early morning from the balcony at Bella Vista
The family-friendly skiing area of Klewenalp-Stockhütte located above the villages of Beckenried and Emmetten, Klewenalp has stunning views over Lake Lucerne towards the Rigi and the Mythens. There is a very long series of toboggan runs, airboarding, extensive scenic winter walks, good snowshoe trails and some lovely pistes .
It offers ten lifts and about 40 km of skiing and snowboarding slopes of varying degrees of difficulty, at between 1600 and nearly 2000 m.
They claim to have the longest sledging run in Central Switzerland: 9 km long with a difference in altitude of 850 m. It goes via Stockhütte down to Emmetten.
From January till mid March every Saturday you can enjoy night sledging from Stockhütte to Emmetten. But don’t forget to bring a headlamp because there are no lights along the piste ! We didn’t know it so we had to slide down in almost complete darkness … It was a great experience but I would still recommend to take a lamp with you 🙂
